This lab asks students to follow chromosomes through the special division process of meiosis to create haploid reproductive cells. Students use pop-it bead chromosomes to model the steps of meiosis and also paper cut-out chromosomes to explore crossing over.

• Download the paper chromosomes for the crossing over exercise. -- print two copies for each student group: one on blue cardstock/paper (to represent the chromosomes that originally came from Dad) and one on pink cardstock/paper (to represent the chromosomes that originally came from Mom)
