HD

The HD gene is one of the odd cases of a gene named for a disease rather than its normal trait -- a fatal genetic disease. Type in "HD" to the UCSC Browser, and then answer the following questions:
  1. What does the symbol for this gene mean?
  2. On which chromosome is the gene located?
  3. Where is the gene located on the chromosome? (between which bases?)
  4. How large is the gene? (in bp)
  5. What is the name of the protein produced by this gene?
  6. What is the function of the protein produced by this gene?
  7. In what tissue is this gene expressed?
  8. What mutation in the gene is responsible for the disease? What is the inheritance pattern of the disease?
  9. How large is the protein produced by this gene? (in aa)
  10. Print out the first 100 amino acids in the sequence of the protein (using the single letter aa code).
  11. Does this gene have a few or many exons? Ask your classmates if this is similar to their findings with their genes.
