HEXOKINASE

Hexokinase is an important metabolic enzyme. Type in "hexokinase" to the UCSC Browser, and then answer the following questions:
  1. How many hexokinase genes do we have?
  2. Are they located on the same chromosome? If not, which ones?
  3. Do the various forms of this enzyme have similar exon / intron structures?
  4. EXTRA CREDIT: What could have produced multiple copies of this gene?
For HEXOKINASE 3
  1. What is the symbol for the gene?
  2. On which chromosome is the gene located?
  3. Where is the gene located on the chromosome? (between which bases?)
  4. How large is the gene? (in bp)
  5. What is the function of the protein produced by this gene?
  6. How large is the protein produced by this gene? (in aa)
  7. Print out the entire amino acid sequence of the protein (using the single letter aa code).
  8. Scan through the genomic sequence and comment about how much of the gene is intron and how much is exon.
