SRY

A careful search of DNA samples taken from the members of your class establishes that almost half of them do not have a DNA sequence that corresponds to a gene called "SRY". Find "SRY" in the human genome, and answer the following questions:
  1. What does the symbol for this gene mean?
  2. On which chromosome is the gene located?
  3. Where is the gene located on the chromosome? (between which bases?)
  4. How large is the gene? (in bp)
  5. What is the function of the protein produced by this gene?
  6. Offer an explanation for the fact that almost half of you classmates do not have the SRY gene.
  7. How large is the protein produced by this gene? (in aa)
  8. Print out the entire amino acid sequence of the protein (using the single letter aa code).
  9. What is notable about the intron / exon structure of this gene?
