PEPSIN

Pepsin is a key digestive enzyme. Type in "pepsin" to the UCSC Browser, and then answer the following questions:
  1. Is there an actual gene for "pepsin"? What is the actual gene called?
  2. What is the symbol for the gene?
  3. On which chromosome is the gene located?
  4. Where is the gene located on the chromosome? (between which bases?)
  5. How large is the gene? (in bp)
  6. What is the function of the protein produced by this gene?
  7. EXTRA CREDIT: Why is this protein not direcly produced from a gene?
  8. How large is the protein produced by this gene? (in aa)
  9. Print out the entire amino acid sequence of the protein (using the single letter aa code).
  10. Scan through the genomic sequence and comment about how much of the gene is intron and how much is exon.
