Cells
This is more of a holiday activity with a biology twist. A fun exercise that measures how much water is in cells and gives students a present to give to Mom! You could make this inquiry-style by choosing different varieties of apples, hypothesizing water content based on sugar, taste, and crispness. They can even do the water potential of each type of apple using protocol from osmosis/diffusion lab.Ê(Each student could bring in 2 apples, one to test and one to make into an applehead doll).
Watch the videos: Some photos to show you how to dry the apple heads and how to build the dolls The apple heads drying on the radiator in my classroom. I just used a copy paper box turned upside down.
